World Music Day
Hi.
This is completely unrelated to what I want to talk about
today, but you know, Rants. There are a lot of moments in our lives that we
will call rare. Moments which we wished we had lived a little more. I do, at
least. I wish I could’ve lived a little more, not better just more.
music.
I don’t think I can say anything that hasn’t already been
said, maybe because words aren’t as liberating as I really thought they would
be. There are some things I’d like to
keep to myself, some really beautiful pieces, that I don’t want anyone to know,
because I’m afraid they won’t understand it and appreciate it as well as I
would like them too, I am afraid, they would pass it along as just another
piece of music. You see, that’s the thing, it is just another piece of music.
But it has done wonders for me, I have found it to be more liberating than words
could have ever been, and isn’t that all that matters really, Liberation?
Then comes the music that I wish the entire world could
listen to, music that makes you look inside yourself and question everything,
it does. Think about Floyd, the time when they used to make music, the people
they used to make music for, when I understood that, I felt like an impostor. I
felt as if I was eavesdropping in a conversation I should not have come across in
the first place, because it is not mine
to begin with. These people had something to say, they could not have given a
lesser fuck about their Chords or keys, they cared about whether what they had
to say was being heard or not.
That’s why to me, they are Artists, not musicians. Musicians
understand precision and discipline which I respect immensely, they are like
the Noam Chomsky of the Music world, all of them. All the playlists I have made
have a meaning behind them; it has a hundred thoughts behind them, and a lot of
emotions with them. The music isn’t mine
but I take pride in the fact that I listen to it to find the people who had
something to say. I have special place in my heart for everyone who makes their
own music; they know the beauty of creation.
I listened to the entire Highway album today, at 4.00 AM,
with milk, and wrote, it was a celebration for me, and I realized that I was
living more, I was living much more than I could have in any other moment. When
creating, don’t try too hard, that’s the key.
Today, listen to something or someone that means a lot to you, and appreciate them, let them know how much they mean to you. I'm doing mine right now. Your turn.
